Best Bets: Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers head into Soldier Field to extend their winning record vs. the Chicago Bears.  Though it is week one, this will be a precedent of the future of the teams direction.  Chicago is expecting Justin Fields to take a big step this year with the addition of DJ Moore.  The Packers have high hopes that Jordan Love can lead this team.  Entering week one, there are plenty of questions for both teams.

Here are the best bets for Sundays game.

Packers Open As Dogs

The lines opened, and they had the Green Bay Packers at +2.5 on the spread.  That line has currently moved in favor of the Packers to +1.  The line movement must indicate how Jordan Love played in the preseason.  Week one is always a crap shoot, and hard to predict how the teams will perform.

First Best Bet: Green Bay Packers Aaron Jones Over  41.5 Receiving Yards

This bet directly correlates with the news on Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson.  Both of the Packer’s top receivers are dealing with hamstring issues.  The line opened up at 36.5 and now is 41.5.

Here are a few games where the Packers were missing their top receiving option (Davante Adams)

Aaron Jones’s stats: 7 receptions for 51 yards, seven receptions for 159 yards with two touchdowns, and seven receptions for 75 yards.

If Doubs and Watson can go, there is a good chance they will be limited, especially with it being week one.  Lafleur has shown he is willing to scheme to get Jones involved.  This is my favorite bet of the game, and he should be able to surpass it.

Second Best Bet: Team To Score First Chicago Bears -127

In the preseason, the Packer’s offense’s first possession seemed to sputter.  Chicago being at home in Soldier Field, I expect them to come out with a solid game script.

Here are some interesting stats from Warren Sharp on the Chicago Bears opening drives.

They scored on 70.6% of their opening drives, which was #1 in the NFL.

#1 in fewest punts/drive
#3 in most points/drive
$4 in drives to reach red zone
#4 in EPA/play

Third Best Bet: Green Bay Packers Aaron Jones Anytime Score +140

Aaron Jones’s involvement and usage in this offense will be high. The Packer’s total points are 20.5, which is good for two touchdowns.  I expect Aaron Jones to be the staple of this offense against Chicago; the odds are too good to pass up.

Final Thoughts

Week one is always an unknown.  Neither team shows a lot during the preseason, and it is very vanilla.  Therefore, it is hard to bet on the spread even though the homer inside me wants to take the Packers +1.
