Green Bay Packers: 3 Keys to a Win vs. The Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (10) talks to his team during the first quarter of their game Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.

Fresh off a come-from-behind win for the New Orleans Saints, The Green Bay Packers have to turn right back around and play against the Detroit Lions in a Thursday night matchup.  Both teams are atop the NFC North division at 2-1.  With both the Bears and Vikings looking like they are playing for Caleb Williams, this game will be necessary.

Detroit will be the toughest matchup for the Packers this year; here are the three keys to a win.

Green Bay Packers Offensive Tackles

Aiden Hutchinson, the second overall pick in 2022 for the Detroit Lions, is a game-wrecker.  Knowing where he is at all times and keeping Love upright will be huge.  David Bakhtiari and Zach Tom are questionable for the game as of now.  If neither can go, Lafluer will likely have a tight end chipping him, whichever side he lines up on.

Green Bay Packers Slot Corner

There is no new news on whether Jaire can go, which would be a massive blow in this game.  Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the best wide receivers working out of the slot.  He averages seven receptions, 13 yards a catch, and 91.7 yards a game.

Amon-Ra is Jared Goff’s go-to receiver.  Seeing almost ten targets a game, the Packers need to be able to slow him down to have a chance.  The other matchup problem would be Sam LaPorta.  The rookie out of Iowa has been a stud for the Lions.  He is a matchup nightmare; the Packers will have to decide how to defend him.

Win the Turnover Battle

For the Packers to have a chance in this matchup, they must win the turnover battle.  The Lions haven’t won the turnover battle once this year, and in the game, they had three turnovers they lost.  The offense is efficient and will be able to move the ball, and the Packers need to find ways to make plays.

The offense for the Packers has to clean up the penalties.  So far this year, they have done an excellent job of caring for the ball.  Discipline will be important in this divisional matchup.
