For the first time in 15 years, Packers family night, they had. a new face of the franchise.  Jordan Love and company took the field as one of the younger teams in recent memories.  The Green Bay Packers had 65,222 fans in attendance for their practice.  Here are five takeaways that I had from the practice.

Malik Heath Stood Out

Malik Heath has been having a solid training camp, pushing to get the last receiver spot.  The Mississippi State receiver was undrafted but has been making the most of his opportunity here in Green Bay.  With four receivers that should be a lock, Malik Heath looks to compete with Dontavious Wicks for the 5th spot.  If Green Bay does end up keeping six receivers, Malik Heath should be on the roster.  During the family night, he made multiple plays.

Musgrave and Reed Running With the Green Bay Packers Starters

Rookies Luke Musgrave and Jayden Reed were running with the first-team offense.   Musgrave looks the part to be a focal point of this offense.  Musgrave’s size and speed will put a lot of pressure on safeties and can open up this offense.

Jayden Reed ran crisps routes and looked sharp during the practice.   The offensive skill positions will undoubtedly have growing pains with the youth, but the sky is the limit with the group.

Green Bay Packers Defensive Line Looks Improved

The Packer’s defensive line looks more athletic.  2022 first-round pick Devonte Wyatt is slated to be a big part of the defensive line.  The additions of Luke Van Ness, Karl Brooks, and Colby Wooden should help bolster the line as well.  Throughout the family night, the one thing that stood out the most was this defensive line.  Whether it was the first or second group, they constantly got a push.

No Bakhtiari or Jenkins for the Green Bay Packers

Earlier in the week, Matt Lafluer had Bakhtiara slated to practice for family night.  Unsure if it is preventative measures, but hopefully, it is just that.  Bakhtiari’s health is a significant factor in this offense.  Elgton Jenkins has been a full participant in practice, so there should be no worries.  I assume, Lafluer wanted to get those guys some rest and see the younger guys get some work.

Jordan Love and Romeo Doubs Connection

It was just family night, but Jordan Love was constantly targeting Doubs.  Last year during the preseason, Love and Doubs seemed to have built a good connection.  During the family night, Love looked for Doubs numerous times.  The Packers need Doubs to build off his season from last year and take a big next step.  His ability to win on the outside will be a factor for this offense.

Final Thoughts

Packers family night is always a special night to get the kids and families involved.  Lafleur had some twists by getting fans involved.  You can see the excitement around this team.  The team is young and growing pains are to be expected.

The unwavering support that Jordan Love has received from his teammates has been pretty special.  They move on to the preseason as the Packers head to Cincinnati on Friday, August 11th.
