The Green Bay Packers need help at safety, possibly more than any other position, this off-season. Thin doesn’t do the Packers’ situation justice heading into this year’s draft. I would bet that the Packers take more than one safety; it’s just a matter of when. Here is a list of the safety who performed well at the combine and are hopefully on Gutekunst’s radar.

Five Safeties that Should be on the Green Bay Packers List

#5 ) Calen Bullock

He only participated in two of the recorded drills. It’s possible that is all he wanted to show, considering the issues he has had in run defense in college. He went out and showed he could run with the best in this class. Bullock doesn’t seem like a day-one starter, but with the right coaching and leadership, he could be a good player down the road. What better place to get that support than in Green Bay?

Combine Results :

  • 40-Yard Dash – 4.48
  • 10-Yard Split – 1.51 (Tied for best in Safety group)
  • Vertical – DNP
  • Broad Jump – DNP
  • Three Cone – DNP
  • 20-Yard Shuttle – DNP
  • Bench – DNP
  • Athleticism Score/ SAF rank – 76 (9th)
  • Total Combine Score/ SAF rank – 71 (7th)

#4) Jaylin Simpson

Jaylin may have increased his draft stock more than anyone other safety in this group. Scoring an 87 athleticism score to offset his 57 production score was huge. He may not yet be a good enough tackler to be a full-time safety at the NFL, but with his performance, he might get some looks at the corner, a position he played a fair amount of in college. Another flexible player Green Bay should look at before draft day is anyone who can pull off a backflip as smoothly as Jaylin moves up my board a few spots.

Combine Results :

  • 40-Yard Dash – 4.45 Seconds
  • 10-Yard Split – 1.51 Seconds (Tied for best in safety group)
  • Vertical – 39.5″
  • Broad Jump – 11’1″
  • Three Cone – DNP
  • 20-Yard Shuttle – DNP
  • Bench – DNP
  • Athleticism Score/ SAF rank – 87 (2nd)
  • Total Combine Score/ SAF rank – 67 (12th)

#3) Javon Bullard

The Packers have been drafting Georgia players a lot in the past few drafts. Why not consider another player who had a solid combine to solidify his spot at the top of this year’s safety class? Being a two-time national champion who played with both Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt doesn’t hurt either.

Combine Results :

  • 40-Yard Dash – 4.47 Seconds
  • 10-Yard Split – 1.51 (Tied for best in safety group)
  • Vertical – DNP
  • Broad Jump – DNP
  • Three Cone – DNP
  • 20-Yard Shuttle – DNP
  • Bench – DNP
  • Athleticism Score/ SAF rank – 75 (10th)
  • Total Combine Score/ SAF rank – 77 (2nd)

#2) Cole Bishop

Ranking fourth in athleticism in the combine is a big deal. It should help Cole jump up in value. PFF ranked him as the ninth-ranked safety. When you combine his combine results with the fact that he is 6’2″ and 206 pounds, you hope Green Bay gives him a look come draft day.

Combine Results :

  • 40-Yard Dash – 4.45 Seconds
  • 10-Yard Split – 1.52 Seconds
  • Vertical – 39″
  • Broad Jump – 10’4″
  • Three Cone – DNP
  • 20-Yard Shuttle – DNP
  • Bench – DNP
  • Athleticism Score/ SAF rank – 80 (4th)
  • Total Combine Score/ SAF rank – 75 (3rd)

Honorable Mention

  • Tyler Nubin – Did not participate in the combine, but Green Bay should strongly consider him.
  • Jaden Hicks – Did not participate in the 40-yard dash or 10-yard split. He would be high on this list if he could have put a good 40 times down at his size.
  • Tyler Owens scored 89 on athleticism, the best in the safety group.

#1) Dadrion Taylor-Demerson

Dadrion came into the combine and was ranked sixth by PFF in the safety position in the upcoming draft. That puts him right in that sweet spot. What do I mean by sweet spot? Take Tyler Nubin, for example; he didn’t participate in the NFL Combine along with a few other players who are considered the best at their positions. If those players go out and have a poor showing at the combine, it can only hurt their draft stock. Dadrion, however, didn’t have that problem. He went out and had one of the best combines at safety and likely moved up the board because of it.

Combine Results :

  • 40-Yard Dash – 4.41 Seconds (Best in Safety group)
  • 10-Yard Split – 1.52 Seconds
  • Vertical – 38″
  • Broad Jump – 10’3″
  • Three Cone – DNP
  • 20 Yard Shuttle – DNP
  • Bench – DNP
  • Athleticism Score/ SAF rank – 75 (11th)
  • Total Combine Score/ SAF rank – 70 (8th)
