In my last article, I gave my opinion on the Green Bay Packers third most important need heading into the NFL draft. From my perspective, the defensive line seems like a place where the Packers could always afford to add a draft choice. The second most important need in this upcoming draft is on the opposite side of the line of scrimmage—you guessed it—the offensive line. After the news about David Bahktiari and Jon Runyan, the Packers find themselves a bit thin at tackle and guard.

The Green Bay Packers Need Offensive Line Depth

Here is a list of the current offensive lineman under contract with Green Bay:

  • Elgton Jenkins (G)
    • Age – 28
    • Contract Expires – 2027
  • Josh Myers (C)
    • Age – 25
    • Contract Expires – 2025
  • Sean Rhyan (G)
    • Age – 23
    • Contract Expires – 2026
  • Zach Tom (RT)
    • Age – 24
    • Contract Expires – 2026
  • Royce Newman (G)
    • Age – 26
    • Contract Expires – 2025
  • Rasheed Walker (LT)
    • Age – 24
    • Contract Expires – 2026
  • Caleb Jones (T)
    • Age – 25
    • Contract Expires – 2025 (Practice Squad Signing)

Numbers Don’t Lie

Max Holloway’s famous quote, “Numbers don’t lie, Women lie, Men lie, but numbers don’t lie,” couldn’t be a more on-the-dot description of the Packers’s situation on the offensive line this off-season. The Packers have one player under contract for the next two seasons, and it just so happens to be our oldest offensive lineman.

I fully expect the Green Bay Packers to get a contract extension done for Zach Tom and lock him up after the season he just put together. Tom had the 15th-best PFF grade among all offensive tackles last season. Outside of Tom and Jenkins, however, there isn’t a lot of meat on the bone. Walker had a nice finish to the season, but with Bahktiari gone, are you going to go into this season without insurance that your franchise’s future is protected?

If you’re a Packers fan and you’re being honest with yourself, the Packer’s offensive line wasn’t great for most of the season and could use some juice. I fully expect the Packers to be aggressive in the draft to improve on the offensive line. Luckily for the Packers, this draft is rich with talented offensive linemen.
