Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will take over as the team’s starter this season for the first time in his career. Love spent the last three years learning behind future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Now, after GM Brian Gutekunst traded Rodgers to the New York Jets, the former first round pick out of Utah State is getting his chance to show what he can do.
One thing Love clearly learned during his time sitting behind Rodgers was the importance of the Packers rivalry with the Chicago Bears.
The two teams first met in 1921 when the Bears were known as the Staleys. The Bears are the Packers oldest traditional rival. While the Bears once held a commanding lead in the series, since Brett Favre took over at quarterback of the Packers in 1992, the Pack has turned what was once a 79-57-6 Bears lead in the all-time series into a 104-94-6 Packers advantage. That means that in the last three decades, the Packers have gone 47-15 against the Bears.
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Makes the Rounds on Social Media
On Sunday, for Father’s Day, Jordan Love was asked to wish Bears fans a happy Father’s Day at a quarterback camp in France. His response was posted to social media.
Love simply said, “Happy Father’s Day to all the Bears fans out there,” before ending the message with a simple, “Go Pack Go!”
Apparently, a French Bears fan asked Love to send a Father’s Day message to French Bears fans.
When asked about it, Love responded via Twitter, “Was asked to do a special favor for this fan, didn’t think much of it. Lol” Love responded. “But I see y’all really took it and ran with it. Regardless I hope everyone had a great Father’s Day.”
Of course, part of the joke is that Rodgers had dominated the Bears so thoroughly during his time with the Packers that he was often referred to as their “daddy.”
The two teams have battled back and forth via social media. Chicago defensive tackle Justin Jones made derogatory comments about Packers fans and said, “half of them don’t even know football” and called them “sh#*#y.”
Of course, having fun with Bears fans during the offseason is one thing. Now, Love will have to back it up on the Field. He’ll get that chance in Week 1 when the Packers open the 2023 season in Chicago against the Bears.
