The Green Bay Packers defeated the New Orleans Saints in a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback. A game that looked like it would be one to forget turned into one of the most exciting games in recent memories. All phases of the game stepped up at the end and propelled the Packers to an 18-17 win.
Here are this week’s studs and duds vs. the New Orleans Saints
Stud: Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love
The Packers looked dead in the water through the first three-quarters of the game. Jordan Love had thrown his first interception of the season, and the offense could not get anything going. Something changed in the fourth quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Packers were down by 17, looking for anything to get going.
Love led three straight scoring drives, including a 2-point conversion. One touchdown by running and the other through the air to the reliable Romeo Doubs. He ended the day with 259 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Not only did he get it down through the air, he had 39 yards on the ground, one of which was a 24-yard gain and a momentum changer.
In the fourth quarter, Love made countless big throws. He showed poise and confidence against one of the best defenses in the league. Love needed This type of game to show he could be the guy.
Stud: Green Bay Packers Secondary
The Packers secondary stepped up today without their number one, Jaire Alexander. Darnell Savage and Rudy Ford were the two to stand out. They gave up one touchdown on a short field due to the offense’s turnover on downs.
Darnell Savage looks like a different guy this year. He has been playing with speed, aggressiveness, and a willingness to tackle. Ruby Ford has stepped up in the safety role and has been a tackling machine.
- Darnell Savage: seven tackles, six solo
- Rudy Ford: seven tackles, six solo, and two passes defended
- Corey Bailentine: four solo tackles and one pass defended
Stud: Rashan Gary
Pay the man! Rashan Gary is a stud. He had an incredible three-sack day.
Dud: The Offensive Line
The offensive line is missing their best two players on the left side, but the discipline was not there. Countless false start penalties and drive killers. They only allowed one sack, but Love did a great job today navigating the pocket. The run game again was non-existent, with only 2.8 yards per carry by the running back committee. The line has to be better.
Dud: Malik Heath
The preseason star has not had the best few games. He was targeted twice and came down with neither. One was a curl route that hit him in the hands that he needs to keep coming back for. The other was on Love because he beat his guy but could not make a play on the ball. Heath is still young, and I expect him to bounce back.
