Have you ever watched the Marvel TV show What If..? If you haven’t watched the show, it’s precisely what you would expect.  It details “What If” scenarios from the movies.  The Green Bay Packers are set to play the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon.  I thought it would be interesting to discuss some “What If” scenarios from the game.  The Packers need the first scenario, but Jordan Love doesn’t.

What If… The Green Bay Packers Win, but Jordan Love plays Bad?

Something the Packers desperately need is a win.  No matter how they get it.  A win is still a win.  Suppose you beat the worst team in the NFL or the best team.  It gets players to buy into your coaching.  It helps the fans stay patient with the plan management has implemented.  No matter how you slice it, a win is good.  If Jordan doesn’t play well in the win, it’s not the end of the world.  Questions about his viability as an NFL QB will continue, but a win will buy him more time.  It’s not nearly as bad as the following scenario.

What If… The Green Bay Packers Lose, and Jordan Love Plays Bad?

Without a doubt, the most terrifying outcome would be this.  Not only would this promote the narrative that Jordan Love isn’t a starting quarterback in the NFL.  It would also hinder any hope for the playoffs this season.  It would also raise the question.  Does Brian Gutekunst know what he is doing?  Not only did he trade up to get a backup-caliber quarterback and run Aaron Rodgers out of town.  He has turned the Packers into a young, mistake-ridden dumpster fire.  A loss to the Broncos brings everything into question.  Is Matt Lafluer a good head coach?  Can any of our first-round draft picks outside of Rashan Gary play football?  I would prefer not to live in this reality, but I would like the following scenario if I had to.

What If… The Packers Lose, and Jordan Love Plays Great?

Most fans would still be upset.  I would be right there with them.  The loss would sting, but the silver lining would be our Quarterback doesn’t suck.  No one is entirely sure how good Jordan Love is and how good he will become—one thing I can guarantee.  You probably aren’t very good if you don’t play well against one of the worst defenses in NFL history.  The Packers also have a very soft schedule the rest of the way.  Jordan Love playing well only bolsters the hope he can get us back to the playoffs.  Out of all the scenarios I’ve laid out, only one could help everyone have a brighter outlook on this season.

What If… The Packers Win, but Jordan Love Plays Great?

It’s hard to erase the last two games from your memory.  It’s a rare thing to see a Packers offense struggle like this.  If the Packers take care of business and Jordan Love looks good, it will go a long way toward having real expectations for this team to make the playoffs.  With a soft upcoming schedule and Jordan Love playing well, the future looks much brighter for Packers fans.  Suddenly, it’s easy to imagine a world where the Packers become a team to be feared in the NFC in the coming years.  Once our young talent has grown and developed, the sky’s the limit.

Reality

Reality has yet to be written, and it’s up to Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers to make the last scenario a reality.  However,  no matter what reality the Packers live in after playing the Broncos, I still believe this team can go places given time.  Colin Powell said best: “A dream doesn’t become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.” Let’s hope the Packer’s hard work at practice turns our dreams into reality.
