Green Bay Packers: Why Belief Is a Wise Wager

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (10) celebrates a come from behind victory over the New Orleans Saints during their football game Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. The Packers defeated the Saints 18-17.

Lambeau seemed deflated as the last few seconds ticked off the clock in the 3rd quarter.  Until that point in the game, nothing went the Packers way.  Drive-killing penalties.  Missed blocking assignments.  Missed throws and dropped balls—one huge special teams mistake.  However, the Green Bay Packers showed us that belief is a wise wager.

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love

Jordan Love took another step in proving Gutey wasn’t stupid when he traded up to get him in the 2020 draft.  Love continued the Packers home opener winning streak(11) while orchestrating the Packer’s largest 4th quarter comeback in franchise history(17).  Love finished the game with 259 yards passing and a touchdown.  He also led the Packers in rushing with 39 yards and a touchdown.  Love’s numbers weren’t significant except for the number that matters—putting a one in the win column.

Through three weeks, Love has shown us three key things.  The first thing is accuracy, anticipation, and awareness.  Jordan has shown he has the tools to be a great NFL quarterback.  Jordan leads the league in aggressiveness, with 29 % of his throws fit into tight windows.  He missed some throws against the Saints, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.  The second thing is leadership.  Everyone in the locker room clearly believes in him and follows his lead.  He has a calm demeanor on and off the field, which is what you want from your leader.  He never stopped battling, nor did the Packers against one of the league’s top defenses.

Chip on the Shoulder

The last thing is “the chip”.  Just like Rodgers, Love was overlooked by 25 NFL teams on draft night; they overlooked when the media crushed the Packers for trading up for him when they were in a win-now situation.  He was overlooked again when analysts thought he could only be a game manager and never live up to Aaron Rodgers’s legacy.  Love is out to prove everyone wrong, and I can’t wait until Thursday to watch him behind center again.  Thanks to great defense and a spectacular 4th quarter performance from Love, we got this great quote from coach Lafluer, “It was a nightmare that went into a dream.”

So, if you haven’t bought into Jordan Love yet, don’t wait too long because belief is always a wise wager.
