The Green Bay Packers 2022 draft class had contributions from many players their rookie season. The Packers had breakouts from multiple guys, and many guys look like they could make a big year two jump. One guy showed flashes but didn’t have the opportunities to keep building on that momentum: Samori Toure.
Samori Toure
The seventh-round pick only appeared in 10 games with limited snaps. It seemed like he was making a big play when he was on the field. Toure may not be the most athletic receiver, but he is a savvy route runner. The six-foot receiver ran a 4.48 and a solid three cone of 6.77. Though he is not a field stretcher, finding open spots in the defense was his strength at Nebraska.
Toure impressing Packers coaches in OTA’s
The expectation is Toure, and Jayden Reed will be competing for the third receiver spot. Packers wide receiver coach Jason Vrable said the guy who noticeably improved this offseason was Toure.
Vrable has high expectations for Toure and mentioned, “83 looks unbelievable. He’s put on 10 pounds; he’s worked his butt off.” “You wouldn’t even recognize the guy compared to last year,” Vrable added.
The Packers offense is young, but this is the NFL
Guys will be called upon to compete, and the trio of Watson, Doubs, and Toure have to take another step this year. Lazard and Cobb accounted for 1,234 snaps last year, leaving a massive void to fill.
Toure has shown the poise and the maturity to take the next step for this team. The Packers youth movement is real, and the second-year receivers will be relied on heavily.
A healthy offensive line and veteran running backs will be the foundation for this offense. Seeing how LaFluer’s play-calling changes with Jordan Love under center will be interesting.
There is no doubt that Toure will have a role in this offense, but the question is how big.
