The Green Bay Packers landed three players on Pro Football Focus’ NFL all-breakout team. These are players that are most likely to become “forces to be reckoned with” during the 2023 season and take their games to another level.
PFF looked at players from all 32 teams across the league to compile this list. No other team in the league had more than three players on the list which consisted of just 22 players, one at each starting position on offense and defense.
Here is a look at the three Packers who made the list with a brief discussion as to why PFF feels they are breakout candidates:
Breakout Candidate Number One: WR Christian Watson
Watson is entering his second NFL season. The second round pick out of North Dakota State got off to a slow start in 2022 after missing the preseason and much of training camp with assorted injuries.
But Watson finished the season strong and after his breakout game in Week 10 against the Cowboys. He caught 41 passes for 611 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie.
Watson has the size and speed to be an elite WR1 in this league and has Pro Bowl potential if he can be more consistent.
His strong finish to the season and pure physical talent landed Watson on this list.
Packers Breakout Candidate Number Two: C Josh Myers
Myers was the biggest surprise among the three Green Bay players selected by PFF. The Packers drafted the former Ohio State star in the second round in 2021. Myers played in only six games as a rookie due to injuries despite winning the starting job in training camp.
In 2022, he played in all 17 games and established himself as the starter. PFF noted Myers’ very average grades, but he was also consistent, never scoring too high or too low in any one contest.
The progress Myers made in year two over his rookie season gave PFF reasons for optimism. Myers grades out better as a pass protector than a run blocker but should make a leap forward in his second full season in the NFL.
Packers Breakout Candidate Number Three: DL Devonte Wyatt
The Packers drafted Wyatt with their second first-round pick in 2022 but the Georgia alum barely saw the field until Dean Lowry was injured and missed the final three games of the year.
Wyatt showed flashes of ability as a rookie and has the quickness and size to disrupt running plays and get pressure on opposing passers.
Defensive coordinator Joe Barry will be counting on Wyatt to start this year after Lowry and Jarran Reed left via free agency. PFF sees a big jump from Wyatt as he begins his second season in the NFL.
